Value of diffusion tensor imaging and tractography in unilateral lumbar disc prolapse

چکیده
Abstract Background Conventional MR imaging is not enough for evaluation of symptomatic foraminal stenosis, because there high incidence false-positive results in asymptomatic elderly patients. cannot quantitatively assess the severity nerve lesion. DTI a non-invasive way to effectively trace fiber bundle and evaluate injury. with tracking may describe abnormalities beyond resolution conventional techniques. The aim this work was compare between mean values diffusion parameters such as fractional anisotropy apparent coefficient compressed lumbar spinal roots contralateral normal roots. Correlate these neurological symptoms. This prospective study that conducted on 50 patients unilateral posterolateral disc prolapse at university hospital. They were investigated tensor tractography 1.5-T MR. changes nerves relationship side effects using Japanese Orthopedic Association score visual analogue scale investigated. Results significantly lower ( p ≤ 0.001), higher 0.001) than intact nerves. There strong correlations symptoms assessed scale. Conclusion In prolapse, radicular are affected comparison healthy affection correlated degree provide clinically relevant information

The Benefits and implementations of Diffusion tensor imaging and Neural Fiber Tractography in Brain Surgery
Background and Aim: The methods for detecting brain activation with fMRI, MRI provides a way to measure the anatomical connections which enable lightning-fast communication among neurons that specialize in different kinds of brain functions. Diffusion tensor imaging is able to measure the direction of bundles of the axonal fibers which are all aligned. Besides mapping white matter fiber tracts,...
متن کاملdiffusion weighted imaging, diffusion tensor imaging, and t2* mapping of lumbar intervertebral disc in young healthy adults
conclusion adc, fa, and t2* values may quantitatively reflect the microstructural characteristics of np, therefore they could be used to detect the minimal changes of early ldd. results the adc, fa, and t2* values were different (p < 0.05) among different rois within the same disc or among corresponding rois in different level discs. while the average values of adc increased regularly with the ...

In selected patients with medically refractory epilepsy, surgical treatment can render the patients seizure free or significantly reduce seizure frequency. Temporal lobe resection (TLR) for temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most commonly performed epilepsy surgery procedure. A visual field defect (VFD) due to injury to the optic radiation (OR) may occur after TLR. Diffusion tensor imaging (DT...
متن کاملFiber Tractography and Diffusion Tensor Imaging in Children with Agenesis and Dysgenesis of Corpus Callosum: A Clinico-Radiological Correlation
Background Corpus callosum is the largest commissure in human brain. It consists of tightly packed white matter tracts connecting the two cerebral hemispheres. In this study we aimed to evaluate role of fiber tractography (FT), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in ped...
متن کاملDiffusion-weighted imaging and diffusion tensor imaging of asymptomatic lumbar disc herniation.
Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) were performed on a healthy 31-year-old man with asymptomatic lumbar disc herniation. Although the left S1 nerve root was obviously entrapped by a herniated mass, neither DWI nor DTI showed any significant findings for the nerve root. Decreased apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values and increased fractional anisotropy (FA)...
